State Opera Stara Zagora visits Sofia with "Bohemi"
On 1 July at 19.00 on the stage of the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov" is to be presented one of the most remarkable performances in the cultural calendar of opera Bulgaria - the new production of Puccini's masterpiece "Bohemian" by the Stara Zagora Opera. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a dynamic, moving, highly theatrical performance, impacting with its unconventional and respectable directorial and scenographic solutions. Director Ognyan Draganov stages the exciting musical drama for the second time in his career, succeeding in attracting an international creative team and a constellation of young operatic talent. The world-renowned Romanian artist Catalin Arbore is the author of the original and spectacular scenography, designed in a cinematic perspective with paintings and images by the French masters Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, Antoine Blanchard and Edouard Cortès. The established Bulgarian designer Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova dresses the characters in beautiful costumes adequate to the period and in sync with the overall vérité atmosphere of the dramatic love story.
The main roles are played by young opera performers who are already successfully building their careers at home and abroad. In the role of Mimi, the audience will have the opportunity to applaud the star of Kosovo Besa Lugici - who has become a favorite of the Bulgarian audience after winning the Grand Prix "Elena Nikolai"-Panagyurishte 2013 and from her incarnations in the roles of Lucia di Lammermoor and Violetta from Verdi's opera "La Traviata". The talented pupil of the opera prima Christina Angelakova made her debut with a spectacular success as Lucia di Lammermoor in Stara Zagora and the National Television of Kosovo visited the city of Linden to make a film about their prima donna and the Stara Zagora Opera. In the role of Rudolfo, she will be partnered by 26-year-old Ukrainian tenor Mykhailo Malafi /student of the world tenor Kaludi Kaludov/, who, along with a series of first prizes in international competitions, marked his professional triumphs on the stage of the Lviv National Opera, Bolshoi Theatre-Minsk, Sofia Opera and Ballet, Gdansk Opera and others. The baritone Rusi Nikov, who lives and works in Austria and has had a successful career abroad, will be Marcel, while the magnificent soprano Desi Stefanova, a soloist of the Stara Zagora Opera, will perform the role of his coquettish beloved Musetta. Theodore Petkov will be in the role of Shonar. Ivaylo Djurov, an undisputed follower of the glorious Bulgarian bass tradition, has been chosen for the role of Colin. The performance will be conducted by the chief conductor of the Stara Zagora Opera Ivaylo Krinchev. The choir and orchestra of the Stara Zagora State Opera, as well as the children from the vocal studio for opera and ballet "Margaritki" at the Stara Zagora State Opera will take part.
