In the late 1930s, Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev was commissioned by the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow to create a symphonic work for children. Intrigued by the task, he completed it in 4 days, personally writing the narrator's text as well. Petya and the Wolf premiered on 2 May 1936, conducted by Prokofiev himself. Since then, many famous musicians have been provoked to make their own interpretation of the work. The fact that the orchestra's sound is addressed to children, that there is also a story in the work, told by a reader, arouses the curiosity of even non-classical musicians and enthusiasm in the children's audience.
