It is set in the city of Breslau, in the period of St. Medea, the daughter of Orol, a priest of Sabazius, falls in love with Marcello, a praetorian warrior of Rome. They plan to escape to Corinth. Their treason is discovered by Orol, but all three are captured by Roman soldiers. They are condemned to be executed- Marcelo for treason, Medea for apostasy, and Orol as a fanatic.
