Mixed Choir "Petko Stainov" - gr. Kazanlak with awards from the 4th International Music Festival "Michelangelo Buonarroti" - Florence, Italy /11-14 April 2024/
Maestro Mladen Stanev with the award for the best conductor of the festival
The Mixed Choir "Petko Stainov" (at the National Community Centre "Iskra-1860") from the town of Kazanlak with conductor Mladen Stanev returned after a successful participation in the International Music Festival and Choir Competition "Michelangelo Buonarroti", which is held annually in the city - the cradle of the Renaissance - Florence.
The ensemble competed with a total of 5 participating choral groups and deservedly won first places in the categories "Mixed Choirs" and "Sacred Music". With a silver diploma was also appreciated the participation in the competition category "Popular, jazz and folk music".
The Petko Stainov Choir also received two special awards at the music festival - for a performance of a work by an Italian composer, and Maestro Mladen Stanev was awarded the prize for the best conductor of the festival.
In the overall rankings of the choral competition, Petko Stainov took second place in the Grand Prix, coming in behind the undisputed favourite - the youth school of the Odessa Opera, Ukraine - the Odessa Pearls Choir.
Outside the competition programme, on each of the four festival days, the singers of the Petko Stainov Choir performed evening concerts in various churches in the historic part of the city. Traditionally, the rich and genre-diverse repertoire focused on Bulgarian music and in particular on the performance of works by Petko Stainov, Dobri Hristov, Emanuil Manolov, Todor Popov, Milcho Leviev, in the presence of a large audience.
A creative workshop brought most of the participants together for a joint performance and interpretation of a work by a contemporary Italian composer.
In their free time, most of the choristers were able to experience the masterpieces of fine art and Renaissance painting in the museums of the Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi Gallery, got acquainted with the architectural, cultural and historical sights of Florence, exchanged creative and friendly experiences with the participating ensembles from Ukraine, Italy and other countries.

With these remarkable achievements the choir "Petko Stainov" proved to its audience that it has regained its glory and strength from the years before the pandemic and declares its serious intentions to continue to be a significant part of the choral traditions of the country and the region, as well as to be their cultural ambassador.
