The opera Tosca by Giacomo Puccini is one of the most popular works of the celebrated Italian opera composer.
On 28 March at 19.00 the Stara Zagora audience will attend an interesting and impressive interpretation of the well-known and beloved opera title. "Tosca is a romantic drama filled with violent passions - both amorous and political, as well as strong theatrical effects. This allows the creative team to unleash their creative fantasies. A compilation of traditional means of expression and the modern achievements of new technologies will shape the three-dimensional place of the stage action.
In the three main roles of Floria Tosca, Mario Cavaradossi and Baron Scarpia, the audience will have the opportunity to applaud an exceptional soloist cast. Elena Barramova is a sensual and magnetic Tosca. Tenor Georgi Dinev is the artist Cavaradossi. Baron Scarpia will be Alexander Krunev, who is unquestionably considered by connoisseurs to be one of the best Bulgarian interpreters of the complex and rich character.
Matej Pop /Romania/ will stand at the conductor's podium. The director of the performance is Ognyan Draganov and the stage adaptation is by Todor Demerov. Participants are also Alexander Marulev, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Ivaylo Yovchev and others, orchestra and choir of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, DYSSOB "Margaritki", Pre-Bulgarian Survival School "Baga-Tur".
For the first time in Stara Zagora the opera "Tosca" was staged on 18 December 1937. The conductor was Peter Spiridonov, the director Stefan Makedonski, the painter Dr. Buchinski, the choirmaster Boris Fetvadjiev. There followed premieres in 1945, 1954, 1965, 1977, 1984, 1989, 1992. The last of them was on 1 July 1998 - conductor Nedyalko Nedyalkov-guest, director Nina Naydenova, artist Radostin Chomakov, choirmaster Emil Minev.
"Tosca is a musical drama in three acts and is one of the greatest classical works of all time. The libretto was written by Puccini's favourite authors Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Ilica on the basis of the melodrama Floria Tosca by Victorien Sardou, written especially for the great Sarah Bernard, inspired Puccini to compose the music describing the strong and impossible love between the singer Floria Tosca and the artist Cavaradossi. Credit for the overall vision of the show goes to director Ognyan Draganov, who once again demonstrates fantasy, aesthetics, the ability to use all modern means of expression and technical means in a moderate and unobtrusive way, and to boldly experiment and take an innovative and unconventional approach to directing. And most importantly - to achieve an overall suggestion adequate to the original complex musical dramaturgy.
"Tosca" on the Stara Zagora stage achieved incredible density in the musical and scenic picture. The tempo of the performance, which tells a shocking story, is strictly followed by the director Ognyan Draganov, so that the audience can feel the inner pulsations of the performance in the multitude on stage, the placement of extras in the church with the group of children with the youngest participants in the children's choir of the church... The stage adaptation is by Todor Demerov. Here the scenography is not only signifying hinted elements, but there are also concretely finished ones-the skeleton with the painting of Cavaradossi, the grand cathedral architecture achieved with modern means, which creates the feeling of something very successful in the artistic order." writes Donka Yotova in the article "A flaming human circle in a temperamental 'Tosca'", the National Business Mail, issue 28.03.-3.04.2016.
