The Stara Zagora Opera with a second approved project under the European Solidarity Corps programme
Stara Zagora State Opera started the implementation of the project "Youth Solidarity through Ballet Art", funded by the European Union's European Solidarity Corps programme, which promotes international youth mobility and the development of European cooperation and solidarity. Through this project four young ballet dancers from Italy, Spain and Poland have been recruited to the ballet company of the Stara Zagora Opera and given the opportunity to work on a long-term contract as ballet dancers. In addition to participating in rehearsals and performances, the young ballerinas will also be involved in the implementation of various youth events with a social and cultural focus, which promote the cultural diversity of the European Union and contribute to the social inclusion of local youth from vulnerable backgrounds. This is the second project under the European Solidarity Corps programme that the Opera will implement. It builds on the idea of the first one and provides a one-year employment opportunity for young people from the EU who are in the so-called NEET (not in education, employment, training) group, but have skills in dance and ballet and wish to develop their potential by working on a full-time contract and getting a real opportunity for professional development. The project is well conceived in view of the fact that many young people employed in the arts have lost their jobs as a result of the COVID pandemic, and those who have recently completed their dance education are not getting employment opportunities, as a large number of ballet companies in Europe have stopped their activities and the chances for professional development are extremely limited. The project "Youth Solidarity through the Art of Ballet" lasts for 18 months and costs 14 527 Euro.
