On 30 October at 7 pm on the stage of the State Opera Stara Zagora you will see again the classical ballet "Swan Lake" by P.I. Tchaikovsky.
On May 23, 2017, the ballet-perla "Swan Lake" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was presented on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera for the first time in the 92-year history of the theatre. For the Stara Zagora Opera the appearance of this title in the repertoire poster is a real event and a challenge, both for the production team, the artistic staff, and for the Stara Zagora audience - a proven admirer of classical ballet, long thirsty for such a cultural sensation. The prima ballerina, teacher and choreographer, current head of the multinational ballet company of the State Opera-Stara Zagora Sylvia Tomova sets "Swan Lake" based on the classical version by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa.
The set and costume designer is the young talent Denis Ivanov. "Swan Lake" on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera is not meant to repeat what the classical ballet fan has been watching for 140 years. The creative team strives to explore the impact this work has on the viewer, to be able to "dress" the performance with the suggestions and sensations of its inner world and thus turn the familiar ballet masterpiece into a new, modern performance, solved with all the current means of modern scenography and stage technology and possibilities. In the new production of Swan Lake, the set and costumes complement and emphasize the director's concept and are a reflection of the expression that aims at a specific suggestion to the audience. The main weapon is the vision, because it is the vision that first comes into the reach of the audience's attention and it is the vision that imposes and dictates the mood and carries the "air" that the audience breathes.
In the performance of the ballet Swan Lake by P. И. Tchaikovsky, the entire multinational ballet troupe of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, more choristers of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, representatives of the Pre-Bulgarian School of Survival "Baga-Tur", children from the Children's and Youth Studio of Opera and Ballet "Margaritki". On October 18 you will have the pleasure to see the debut of the young and extremely talented ballet dancer from the troupe of the Stara Zagora Opera Ballet - Fiordi Loha - in the role of the Prince. The prima ballerina Anelia Dimitrova is Odette/Odile, Tomoki Ishigo is the Jester and Ivaylo Yanev is Rothbart.
"Stara Zagora Opera's Swan Lake is one of the rare ballets with a massive set. In this way, the artist Denis Ivanov expresses his aspiration to suggest both the power and monumentality of the performance, and in parallel to achieve space and infinity of the stage design. The scenography, in itself, is clean, but it is a complex, large-scale construction, surrounding the entire stage, like a panoramic round, resolved in a high gothic stone colonnade, with huge panels - photo-wallpapers, carrying the illusion of depth and "3D" effect of the stage space.
At the front of the structure is "encircled" by a circular balustrade, behind which are hidden light apparatuses creating a light panorama.
The overall scenography is designed in cold stone colours, complementing the scale and monolithic nature of the structure.
The costumes, which /like the set/ are Gothic in style, have a clean line, contemporary feel and minimalism in their depiction of the period. They are constructed in warm pastel, natural colours and ranges.
The "swan" - a symbol
The Swan, one of Sylvia Tomova's ideas, a symbol of the sheath and the material in life... A symbol of Odette's slavery and the maidens... She, herself arrives at it when Siegfried first sees her, and after the end of the destructive battle between love and hate, good and evil, it is the Swan that takes the two young people to a different world... Where, in fact, everything material loses meaning and where there is neither suffering, nor tears, nor injustice... - Denis Ivanov, artist 2017.
