On 20 August, at 13.00, the Second International Competition for Young Tenors THE VOICE OF KAMEN officially starts. The Director of the Stara Zagora Opera Ognyan Draganov opened the event with heartfelt words in memory of the world-renowned opera singer Kamen Chanev - "a great artist and a great friend with whom we have spent many unique moments on stage and in life. Ognyan Draganov also presented part of the jury of the competition, starting with the president of the jury, the famous Argentine tenor, composer and conductor Jose Cura, and thanked him especially. Then he addressed Tania Ivanova - Kamen Chanev's companion in life, organizer and inspirer of the competition, continued with "the well-known maestro Kaludi Kaludov and a great friend of the Stara Zagora Opera" and ended with the conductor maestro Vladimir Kiradjiev - professor and lecturer at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. He drew the singers' attention to Vyara Shuperlieva, a pianist and accomplished accompanist with a respectable career, and the privilege of accompanying her at the competition. She also presented the team of the competition in the person of Siyka Lapachka - organizer and PR, the journalist Miglena Stoycheva - author of the unique show of the Stara Zagora Opera BACK THE CALLS on BNT2 - one show will be dedicated to the competition and who will be the host of the competition evenings and the office manager Hristina Atanasova.
José Cura shared his joy at being the judge of this remarkable competition for the second time, noting that at the first competition two years ago he had discovered many new young talents, and the tenor who had won first prize had participated in his production of Puccini's opera The Swallow and had performed exceptionally. He expects to find his new discoveries this year, "because we need dramatic tenors, no less than lyrical voices that can sing beautifully." He spoke of his acquaintance with Kamen Chanev and of his friendship with Tania Ivanova, who is "the hidden weapon and inspiration of this competition" and whom he is ready to support in every endeavour because he feels her as a sister... The Maestro wished success to all the tenors who, starting tomorrow, will go into open competition for the prize THE VOICE OF KAMEN.
Ognyan Draganov invited the participants to proceed to the drawing of lots, which determines the order of their appearance and the pianist who will accompany them. There are three pianists in the competition: Vyara Shuperlieva, Denitsa Petrova and Miroslav Georgiev.
The first round starts at 11.00 on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera House and will take place in two competition days - on 21 and 22 August. The results of the first round will be announced on 22 August in the evening.
