Stara Zagora State Opera joins the Jerusalema Dance Challenge

On the occasion of the International Dance Day on 29 April, Stara Zagora State Opera took part in the #JerusalemaDanceChallenge. For 2 weeks the whole Opera collective by individual units - administration, choir, orchestra, ballet, soloists, technical services - rehearsed the dance, led by ballet dancers Alexander Markov and Kalin Lyubenov from the Stara Zagora Opera Ballet Company. The video of the dance was filmed by Milen Botev in various places around the building of the State Opera Stara Zagora - on the Antique Street, in front of the Service Entrance, on the loading ramp, in the foyers, and on the site in front of the Regional Library "Zahariy Knyazheski". The total participation of nearly 300 dancing employees of the Opera was filmed at the Antique Forum "Augusta Traiana". In the face of the pandemic, one song infected thousands of social media users. The South African hit "Jerusalema" inspired many and became one of the most interesting challenges of the year. Thousands of people danced to the sounds and the videos became a real furore. The South African DJ's song appeared at the end of last year and in just a few months it took over the world and infected everyone with its beat. The hit gained worldwide fame and has been viewed over 185 million times on Youtube. Later, the song also became a global dance challenge. In the year of the coronavirus, the video became an escape from the stress and fear of contagion. Almost overnight, many people from police departments in Africa to priests in Europe posted their own dance videos that repeated the choreography. The challenge videos carry a message of hope. People of all nationalities and professions join in the rhythmic movements. The challenge is known as a universal anthem of unity, an example of how dance unites in these times even with a mask on your face.
