In the first 2023 chamber concert of the boutique series "Music Without Borders", the bass with an international career Genko Geshev, together with the pianist Denitsa Petrova and the poet Maria Doneva, will present songs in seven languages from the works of Brahms, Verdi, Poulenc, Glinka, Vaughan Williams, Cherkin, as well as works by Chinese composers.

The concert continues an already established tradition of special multi-genre chamber concerts that present audiences with surprisingly enjoyable encounters with unfamiliar works from the world's musical treasury, interpreted by the great operatic names, talented instrumentalists, actors, and poets. The bass Genko Geshev says that this concert is especially exciting for him because it is his first return to his native stage - in his native Stara Zagora, after a long absence. In the last 35 years of his life and career as a singer and university lecturer Genko Geshev has had the opportunity to visit and work in over 60 countries around the world and to experience different cultures. This has provoked him to bring together the music of composers of different styles from the 18th to the 20th century, as well as works by Chinese composers, in the programme of the concert to be presented on 10 February. The songs he has selected will take the audience through different feelings and moods of love, jealousy, laughter, sadness, melancholy, admiration for nature, longing for the native land, death... The poet Maria Doneva will complement the romantic musical picture with her own and favourite selected poems from the world poetic heritage.

GENKO GESHEV is a distinguished teacher, opera singer and director. Since 2001, he has been a tenured professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, USA. From 2004 to 2014 he served two consecutive terms as Dean of the Vocal Department and Permanent Director of the University's Opera Department with whom he produced and directed 18 operas.

In his studio, Prof. Geshev works with students on fundamental vocal technique found in the song, opera, and cantata-oratorio genres of classical music.

His graduates are prizewinners of prestigious international competitions such as Operalia, Cardiff, Metropolitan Opera, Gerda Lissner, and others, and many sing in established opera houses in America, Europe, and Asia.

Prof. Geshev regularly gives masterclasses at leading universities and conservatoires around the world, and is frequently invited to join the juries of international competitions and auditions. In 2012, he was awarded the title of "Guest Professor Emeritus" at the Central Beijing Conservatory in China. Prof. Geshev is the founder and teacher of the Summer Academy for Young Opera Singers based in Bologna, Italy.
