THE WORLD BARITONE MATTHIAS GOERNE VISITS STARA ZAGORA

WORLD BARITONE MATTHIAS GOERNE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN STARA ZAGORA

After the unique experience "Opera at the stadium" and the still untold excitement about the spectacular performance of the opera "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, the music lovers of Stara Zagora are in eager anticipation of another exceptional June event. On Friday, June 24 at 7 p.m. on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera House will be presented for the first time a true masterpiece of Johannes Brahms' song work. The world-renowned German baritone Matthias Goerne, the virtuoso pianist Maria Prinz and the favourite of generations of viewers Kalin Vrachanski will immerse the audience in the story of "The Beautiful Magellan" - a vocal cycle by Johannes Brahms on a text by Ludwig Ticke. The songs will be performed in the original German, and the romantic tale will be sung in Bulgarian.

The tandem of Maria Prinz and Matthias Goerne is familiar to the Sofia audience from the memorable performance last season of Schubert's vocal cycle Winter Road in Bulgaria Hall. The talented artists have worked together on a number of projects and have reached an impressive harmony of professional collaboration. The idea for the next joint concert in Bulgaria came spontaneously and took shape in a difficult working meeting in a "stolen" interlude from the busy schedule of the famous artists. In the words of Maria Prince, Matthias Goerne was the initiator to present Johannes Brahms' little-known and only song cycle to the Bulgarian audience. It was also his idea to entrust the role of the narrator to a beloved and appreciated Bulgarian actor - Kalin Vrachanski was chosen. Obviously fascinated by his first visit to Bulgaria, the baritone himself proposes that the concert-performance "The Beautiful Magellan" be presented this time outside the capital. Maria Prinz, who, besides her amazing artistic talent, is also distinguished by her enviable organizational abilities, immediately set about making the guest appearances happen - two more dates were added to the 21 June date in Sofia - 22 June in Pazardzhik and 24 June in Stara Zagora.

One of the most sought-after and versatile singers of our time - the baritone MATIAS GEORNE comes for the first time to Stara Zagora. For the world-renowned singer, 2016 began with over 30 performances on 4 continents (Australia, Asia, USA and Europe). In the first days of 2016 the baritone performs song recitals in Sydney (Australia). He then flew to Hong Kong where he participated in a concert performance and recording of Wagner's Die Walküre as Wotan. The first disc "Rhine Gold" from the tetralogy " The Ring of the Nibelung" was released by Naxos at the end of last year and received rave reviews "Matthias Goerne is an imposing and impressive Wotan".

Concerts at the NHK Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in February, followed by concerts at Lincoln Center in New York and the San Francisco Opera in March. In April he appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Palaude Musica in Barcelona and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and again at concerts in the USA, and in May at the new Philharmonie Hall in Paris and at a festival in Abu Dhabi. His new CD of recordings of songs by Johannes Brahms was also released in May.

In March 2014 he "saved" the premiere of the opera "Wozzeck" at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, replacing his colleague Thomas Hampson at the last minute without a single rehearsal. The world press spared no superlatives for his appearance and for his outstanding performance.

Highlights of the 2015/2016 season include concerts with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra-Amsterdam, New York Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra-Leipzig, Tonhalle Orchestra-Zurich, as well as song recitals in the most prestigious concert halls such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the San Francisco Opera, Wigmore Hall in London, the new hall of the Paris Philharmonic, the Palaisdes Beaux Arts in Brussels, and has participated in the Abu Dhabi, Salzburg, Verbier and Sydney festivals.

As Wotan in Richard Strauss's Die Walküre, he made a guest appearance in Hong Kong - the performance was part of a complete performance and recording for Naxos of Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Matthias Görne's numerous recordings have been awarded prestigious prizes (Grammy, Echo, German Critics' CD Award, ICMA Award 2014, Diapason d'Or Arte 2014).

For Harmonia Mundi he recorded a series of 11 CDs of selected Schubert songs, the last of which with the Winter Road cycle was released in November 2014.
