Stara Zagora Opera premieres in March

In March the Stara Zagora Opera offers its fans a rich and varied programme - four premiere titles for all ages with different preferences will grace the theatre's spring poster.

On 1 March at 11.00 Baba Marta will welcome the youngest fans of the Stara Zagora Opera with martenitsas and a new programme in the familiar Baby Hall of the Foyer Opera House. Surrounded by warm pillows, comfortable armchairs, countless plush toys, the little ones and their mothers, grandmothers and fathers will have the opportunity to spend a fast-flying hour with lots of music, laughter and fun.

The new edition of DO RE ME IN PUPPIES 2 - Opera for Babieswill feature songs, arias and duets from operas and musicals by Rameau, Mozart, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Alexander Yosifov, as well as favourite instrumental pieces by Bach, Brahms, Shostakovich, Pachelbel, Vivaldi and others. Participants are Neli Necheva, Nina Dimitrova, Nikola Marulev, Theodore Petkov, Svetlana Deneva /piano/ and Trio "Reverence".

On 5 March, at 19.00, the new experimental chamber stage of the Stara Zagora Opera will be officially opened at the State Puppet Theatre-Stara Zagora with the premiere of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's brilliant opera-buffa The Servant Mistress. With this unconventional performance the idea of the director of the Stara Zagora Opera Ognian Dragano to turn the stage of the Puppet Theatre into a place where little-known and unknown chamber opera works can be presented, new and attractively presented directorial ideas can be provoked, young artists can be introduced and creative debuts of young talents can be stimulated. "The Handmaid - Mistress" is the first new production in which the two leading cultural institutions in the "City of Lime Trees" - the State Opera-Stara Zagora and the State Puppet Theatre-Stara Zagora, cooperate. A series of attractive joint projects are to be implemented.

Pergolesi's most frequently performed opera, the short intermezzo La Serva Padrona(The Servant Mistress, 1733) is a true musical gem from beginning to end. On 5 March, audiences will be treated to a different and unconventional take on the timeless life story, in which a poor, beautiful servant girl dreams of becoming a mistress as she plots to marry an old rich man. Director Slavcho Nikolov takes the action back to the 1960s in an office to tell his little story in the big city...

The premiere performance will be conducted by Danish conductor Bernhard Voss, set design by Ivan Tokadzhiev, costume design by Ana-Maria Tokadzhieva, choreography by Romina Slavova. Soloists Emilia Djurova, Neli Necheva, Plamen Kumpikov, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Hristofor Nedkov-guest, Dragomir Hristov, ballet Yuliana Vassileva, Laura Yordanova, Ivelina Dimitrova, Anelia Dimitrova, orchestraof the State Opera-Stara Zagora. The next performance is on 19 March, at 19.00.

On March 14, at 7 p.m., the "most classical" of the classical operettas and the "most Viennese" of the Viennese operettas - "The Bat" by Johann Strauss Jr. will come to life on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera House. 142 years after the first performance of the masterpiece of the "King of the Waltz" "The Bat" does not leave the posters of the major opera houses, and since 1926 it has been a permanent fixture in the Salzburg Music Festival programme. Connoisseurs of the operetta genre are well aware that The Bat is an operetta created for voices, conductors and orchestras of an extremely high class. Apparently, the famous aphorism of the conductor and long-time director of the Vienna Philharmonic, Felix von Weingartner, still holds true today: "The Bat is not only the best operetta, it is operetta itself!".

On March 14, the audience will see a lavish production with beautiful sets and costumes and enjoy the performances of the magnificent soloists Hristofor Nedkov-guest, Desi Stefanova, Elena Baramova, Rusalina Mochukova, Boris Taskov, Momchil Karaivanov-guest, Yanitsa Nesheva, Neli Necheva, Georgi Dinev, Ivaylo Yovchev, Milko Mikhailov, Alexander Baranov-guest, Michaela Berova, Emilia Djurova, Ivan Kabamitov, Ivo Yordanov-guest, Teodor Petkov, Lyubomir Petkov, Alexander Marulev, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Kamelia Stoycheva, Hristo Ivanov, Orchestra, Choir and Ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora.

The opera Tosca by Giacomo Puccini is one of the most popular works of the celebrated Italian opera composer. On 18 March at 19.00 the Stara Zagora audience will attend an interesting and impressive interpretation of the well-known and beloved opera title. "Tosca is a romantic drama filled with violent passions - both amorous and political, as well as strong theatrical effects. This allows the creative team to unleash their creative fantasies. A compilation of traditional means of expression and modern achievements of new technologies will shape the three-dimensional place of the stage action. In the three main roles of Floria Tosca, Mario Cavaradossi and Baron Scarpia, the audience will have the opportunity to applaud an outstanding soloist cast. At the conductor's desk will stand the renowned Argentine conductor Mario de Rosse, who is visiting Stara Zagora for the first time. The director of the performance is Ognyan Draganov and the stage adaptation is by Todor Demerov. The cast also includes Alexander Marulev, Stoyan Bonchev, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Milko Mikhailov, Georgi Dinev, Ivaylo Yovchev, Teodor Petkov, Lyubomir Petkov, Bogomil Rusenov, the Vocal Formation of the DYSSOB "Margaritki" under the direction of Zornitsa Zhelyazkova, the orchestra, choir and ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora.
