OPENING FOBBY with "Village Honour" and "Delvata"

On 28 November at 19.00 on the stage of the State Opera Stara Zagora opens for the 47th time the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art.

The premiere one-act works - the opera "Village Honour" and the ballet "Delvata" by the Italian contemporaries Pietro Mascagni and Alfredo Casella will come to life on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera in one evening. The performances are the work of an all-Italian creative team.

The dramatic story in the opera "Village Honour" will be presented in the authentic Sicilian atmosphere, the costumes are historically true to the time in which the action takes place - the end of the 19th century. The master stage and costume designer Salvatore Russo incorporates the architectural symbols of Sicily into the stage design, uses the typical household equipment and attributes of the region, dresses the characters in characteristic costumes with colourful ethnic elements. Director Ignazio Occhipinti consciously sought a different and even more evocative interpretation of the drama full of emotions and southern passions. In the premiere performance, Olga Romanko will perform the role of Santuzza and Kamen Chanev the role of Turidu. Evdokia-Zdravkova-Khorozova, a long-time soloist of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, will play the role of Mama Lucia, Valery Turmanov will be Alfio and Desi Stefanova will be Lola. Soloists, orchestra and choir of the State Opera-Stara Zagora will participate. Conductor of the choir Mladen Stanev.

In the ballet staging of "Delvata" the Sicilian picture is radically opposite in colours and mood. Alfredo Casella created this one-act dance comedy in 1924. The composer himself had no idea that the ballet "Delvata" would bring him so much success. In his suite, Op. 41, Casella uses many Sicilian folk music elements, even including a tenor solo in Sicilian dialect. Pirandello's enlightening comic parable will be told in a dance version amidst sparkling and bursting colours - in the sets, in the costumes, in the choreography. The audience will meet for the first time Alfredo Casella's "Delva" through the eyes of the great Italian choreographer Flavio Benati. Dance theatre, mixed dance techniques, pantomime in a performance saturated with comic situations. The eternal wise message of the Sicilian Luigi Pirandello: "You have to think before you do anything". The main roles will be performed by the soloists of the Stara Zagora Opera. The orchestra and ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora participate.

The conductor of both performances is Carlo Donadio.
