"Music is medicine for the soul" - more about Carmen at the Stadium

"For the first time in 30 years I am participating in an opera production in Bulgaria. I hope that all viewers of "Carmen" at the Beroe Stadium will understand that music is medicine for the soul, it is an aesthetic that is very important in a person's life" - said the world-famous opera singer Veselina Katsarova, who we will see on July 6 in the role of Carmen.

At a press conference today in the Municipality of Stara Zagora, the creative team of the production, which will be seen in the second edition of the "Opera at the stadium" on Thursday in the City of Lime Trees, was presented. "I am very happy that our city will present such a spectacular show with such elite artists to its residents and guests," said Deputy Mayor Ivanka Sotirova.

More than 240 artists will take the stage, the orchestra is 65 people, the choir - 90, the ballet - 40 artists, there will be 6 horses, 2 numbers by artists from Circus Balkanski. For the first time Veselina Katsarova herself will appear on horseback, as well as Cyrille Rovery /France/ in the role of Escamillo.

The spectacular production of the beloved opera will be presented on a specially built huge stage at Beroe Stadium - Stara Zagora. The performance will be conducted by Ivaylo Krinchev and directed by Ognyan Draganov. The attractive ballet canvases featuring the ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora Ballet are the work of prima ballerina and choreographer Sylvia Tomova. The scenography was prepared and adapted by the artist of the Stara Zagora Opera Todor Demerov.

Vesselina Katsarova, who since 2016 has also been the Artistic Director of the Stara Zagora Opera, invited the star voices of Bulgaria to partner her - Kaludi Kaludov /Don José/ and Tsvetelina Vassileva /Micaela/, as well as the French baritone Cyrille Rovery - for the role of the Toreador Escamillo. The other roles are performed by Evgeny Arabadzhiev as Tsuniga, Denis Ivanov /Morales/, Yanitsa Nesheva /Frasquita/, Nelly Necheva /Mercedes/, Ivaylo Yovchev /Remendado/, Teodor Petkov /Dan Cairo/, ballet soloists Anelia Dimitrova, Romina Slavova, Stanko Tanev, etc. Participants also include the Children's Choir from DYSSOB "Margaritki" with conductor Zornitsa Zhelyazkova, representatives of the Pre-Bulgarian Survival School "Baga-Tur", orchestra, choir and ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, orchestra and choir of the State Opera-Burgas.

The creative team promises a fascinating interpretation of one of the most beloved titles in opera literature. The glittering and joyful music, the fiery rhythms, the heartbreaking drama of freedom, of love and infidelity, of the willingness to sacrifice, combined in one, are a great challenge for anyone who reaches for a new interpretation of Bizet's music and his opera Carmen. On 6 July, the audience will see a classic "Carmen" in which attractive and spectacular solutions abound, which the title and the open-air stage predispose to. Vesselina Katsarova will change several different costumes that have been made especially for her. The costume patterns are a gift to the world-class mezzo-soprano from Italian artist Salvatore Russo.

There will be a raffle with spectators' tickets at the intermission of the show, and the prizes are: a T-shirt and a ball autographed by the Beroe club players,
