He was the inner man of opera, the true sensitive person, its heart and soul. For him opera was a reflection on how emotion influences the shape of the world and can change it.He revered music as the most immediate and spontaneous art, the art of the frank interaction between logic and longing, spirit and body. His life was music as experience, as life in life, a wealth that no man would be found to take away.He had mastered to perfection the philosophy of the stage, philosophy through feeling, a kind of archive of human emotion and self-knowledge.
What Dimitri Dimitrov did is an epoch in the development of our national musical theatre. With his art and with his whole presence he left a sign, a kind of emblem by which today one can read the riddles that build our musical national culture.
